Labyrinth-The Narrow Way
“God is my strong refuge; He makes
my way perfect.”
2 Samuel 22:33
On a recent walk, exploring Niguel
Botanical Garden, Steve and I happened upon a secluded area with a brick patio
overlooking Saddleback Mountain and the surrounding valley. A symmetrical
design was on the ground before us, hand-crafted from various shades of brick,
carefully and intricately fitted together.
I discovered a sign at the opposite
side of this high terrace, which welcomed us to "the labyrinth". The
sign explained that a labyrinth, unlike a maze, contains one entrance into a
single pathway leading through the entire design to a single exit.
The narrow pathway you see in this
labyrinth reminded me of an analogy in the Bible, which compares a pathway to
our spiritual journey leading to an eternal destination.
"How narrow is the gate and
difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.”
Matthew 7:14
The pathway to eternal life is
narrow, as is the pathway in this labyrinth. It is difficult with many curves
and turns, seeming to take you nowhere, or even perhaps backwards. However, if
you remain faithful to follow the narrow path you will have a great
reward-LIFE!
I hope you have found the narrow
gate and entered it! If not, take some time to read the gospel of Matthew to find out more. If you have entered through the narrow gate, keep walking that narrow pathway to life!
