Into the Light

"For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."    (2 Corinthians 4:6)

If you view my blog on your computer you will see this photo at the top of the page, (which unfortunately does not show up if you are viewing my blog on a mobile device). This is a photo I took when we were on a cruise to Alaska several years ago.  The picture was taken while cruising in Glacier Bay.  The family had been enjoying sports on the upper deck of the ship with fantastic, partly-cloudy views of the Alaskan shoreline.

Soon we went down to the pool deck to enjoy some ping pong and to just hang out.  We could not see outside anymore so we did not know that the weather had completely changed.  Suddenly we heard the repeated, loud sounding of the fog horn.  Curious to know what was happening, we went outside to the rail and were amazed when we were met by foggy blackness.  How unexpected it was, after we had enjoyed a mostly sunny time shortly before. While standing along the rail, the fog suddenly lifted again as we journeyed back into the sunlight.

This event made me think about the fact that we had been blissfully enjoying some activities together, totally unaware that the ship was now in a dense fog bank. When we observed the blackness of the fog around us, we became rather nervous about the lack of visibility. We were completely reliant on the ship's captain to know exactly where we were, and where the land was...and to make sure we did not collide with it! We could do nothing but trust in his skills and knowledge to navigate through the foggy narrow bay.

Sometimes in life we may feel that we are lost in the fog, but there is Someone that we can trust, One who knows exactly where we are; He knows how to draw us out of the darkness into His Marvelous Light.  This Someone is God, our Heavenly Father, who is always watching out for us, to protect us and to provide for us because He loves us! As we trusted in that ship's captain to bring us through, we can count on God to bring us through the storms, if we will listen carefully for His voice.

May we be sure to "...proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light..." (1 Peter 2:9)
