While
strolling through a nursery and enjoying the plants, butterflies and
some time to reflect on the day, I came across a grouping of blue
hydrangeas with a gazing ball tucked in beside them. The reflective
surface of the sphere made it difficult to see the actual orb, instead
it swirled with reflected colors from the plants and sunlight
surrounding it.
The
purpose of the gazing ball is not to draw attention to itself but to
reflect the garden and the light around it. In like manner, the purpose
of our actions as Christ followers is to reflect God's light and love,
so that He is glorified.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
Those
around you may not immediately glorify God; many of those who saw
Jesus' good works, only found fault in Him and slandered Him. But those
whose hearts were ready, followed Him! As His followers we can expect
much the same response as what Jesus experienced. Nevertheless, we must
remain steadfast in our purpose; just as a gazing ball continues to
shine, so must we!
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Galatians 6:9 NKJV
